a modest discovery

There's no way around it: the first has definitely influenced the second, seeing as it came about 10 years earlier. Not surprising that the Coens know about contemporary Art photography.

Found while absently running a test DVD to check that software had been reinstalled on an older laptop. It's a good example of what $$$millions can do for a photograph. I'm sure even Wall can't compete with the Coens' budgets.

8 year olds could make better pictures than Jeff Wall, dude.
Sounds like we've hit a raw nerve, Joe! Maybe I'm too influenced by what the "experts" have to say. Maybe the sheer size of the prints is overwhelming. Maybe I think it makes me special by being open to things that others find "difficult." But having seen the lightbox prints @ MoMA in 2007, I wasn't surprised that books don't do him justice, especially when they print across the gutter, like they did with this one. Probably I'll have to agree to disagree with you and the many others who find Wall to be pretentious and annoyingly theoretical. I looked at the full sized print of this image, "A Eviction," for probably 15 minutes when I saw it in 2007.
